How Pocket Ruins works

Pocket Ruins is an original deterministic turn-based browser roguelike. Each short expedition combines route planning, bump combat, floor objectives, relic choices, a resumable run, and permanent camp runes.

Read the board one turn at a time

  • Move with arrow keys, WASD, the touch pad, or adjacent board cells. Entering an enemy cell attacks instead of moving, then surviving enemies take their turn.
  • Walls define the route while traps trade health for speed, springs restore health, relic caches pause the floor for a choice, and sealed stairs require a key or guardian victory.

Build a different expedition

  • Every seed deterministically creates six floors. Sharing a seed recreates the same walls, objectives, and starting enemy set, while combat decisions can still change the outcome.
  • Relics improve attack, armor, health, potions, retaliation, rewards, or grant one revival. A three-option choice appears at caches and between cleared floors.

Lose a map, keep the camp

  • An unfinished run is saved after every action and can be continued after a reload. Victory or defeat converts floor progress, defeats, and relic fortune into rune shards.
  • Camp runes permanently improve starting health, attack, or armor. They create long-term goals without purchases, accounts, paid currency, or server storage.
The expedition stays in this browserPocket Ruins does not upload seeds or play data. The active map, turn state, records, shards, and permanent runes use localStorage. The optional shared arcade JSON backup is created and restored on the device.

Pocket Ruins questions

Seeds, turns, local saves, relics, and permanent runes.

Does the same seed always create the same ruins?

Yes. A seed and floor number reproduce the same initial layout and enemies. Your movement, combat, relic choices, and remaining health are still part of the run state.

When do enemies move?

Enemies act after a valid move, attack, or wait. Opening a relic choice pauses enemy turns until a relic is selected. Drinking a potion does not spend a turn.

Can I continue after closing the page?

Yes. Active expeditions are saved locally after actions and when the page is hidden. Continue is available in the same browser unless site data is cleared.

What remains after defeat?

The map and collected run relics end, but earned rune shards, records, and purchased camp runes remain for future expeditions.
