Practical Tool Guides
How to reduce GIF file size
Choose the right dimensions, frame rate, and colors before downloading a GIF.
Shorter is smaller
GIF is simple but inefficient for long or high-resolution video. Short clips with fewer frames usually work best.
- Trim the clip first.
- Lower FPS when motion allows it.
- Avoid full-screen video-sized GIFs.
Dimensions matter
Reducing width and height has a large effect because every frame becomes smaller.
- Use the smallest size that still reads well.
- Preview text and motion before downloading.
- Compare output size against the original.
Color count is a tradeoff
Fewer colors can reduce size, but gradients and photos may show banding.
- Use fewer colors for simple screen recordings.
- Use more colors for photos.
- Check the final loop in the target app.
